  • Why is Swell shutting down operations?

While we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, Swell was not able to achieve the scale needed to sustain operations in the current market. As a result, we will be closing.

  • When is Swell’s last day?

Swell Investing will terminate all advisory agreements and business operations on August 30, 2019. Swell will not be able to service or access your account after the close of business on August 30, 2019. The final day you will be able to log in to your Swell account is August 30, 2019.

  • What happens to my money?

Rest assured that your investments are safe and you will not lose money solely as a result of this change. Your cash and securities are held in a brokerage account in your name at Folio Investments, Inc.

  • Am I going to incur additional fees?

Swell will pay any fees associated with closing or transferring your account and withdrawing funds. Swell will not charge management fees beginning August 1, 2019.

  • What will happen to the personal information I’ve given to Swell? (Bank, email address, SSN, etc.)

Swell has never stored your Social Security Number or bank information (i.e. routing numbers, account numbers and login credentials).  Swell is required by the SEC to maintain books and records on individuals with whom it has or had client or marketing relationships. This includes information such as your name, address, and trading history.

Swell has incorporated bank-level security measures in everything we do. This includes the strongest available browser encryption, secure servers, and identity verification services — among other precautions.

  • What happens after August 30, 2019?

Any account that still has a balance at business close on Friday August 30, 2019 will be liquidated and closed. If your bank account information on file is still valid, your money will be sent via ACH withdrawal. If not, we will instruct Folio to mail a check to the address we have on file.
