  • Who is Folio?

Your cash and securities are held in a brokerage account in your name at Folio Investments, Inc. Swell is your investment advisor; we manage your money. Swell selected Folio Institutional, an independent third party, to act as custodian to safeguard your assets and to provide clearing and execution of transactions in your account based on our instructions.

  • How do I access my Folio brokerage account?

After August 30, 2019, your account and statements will no longer be accessible through Swell Investing. All accounts will be closed and any remaining funds disbursed via ACH withdrawal or check. To view historical account statements and access year-end tax documents, you will need to log into Folio

How to log into your Folio brokerage account (even after your account has been closed):

    1. Go to www.FolioInvesting.com
    2. Click the LOGIN button and use your Folio Investments Login ID to access your account.
(Note: You can find your Folio account username in the account closure email you received on July 24th or you can find it through the Swell app account settings. See here for more information)

If you forgot or don’t have a Folio Login you’ll need to follow the extra steps below:

    • Click Forgot Password on the LOGIN screen
    • You’ll be redirected to the Reset Password page where you’ll be asked to insert your username (folio investments Login ID), Social Security Number and Date of Birth
    • You’ll receive a password reset email from Swell Investing, click on the button in this email to reset your password and login to Folio
  • How do I transfer my account out of Swell? How do I move my money out of Folio/Swell to another account?

Please keep in mind transfers are initiated on the receiving broker’s side — Swell cannot initiate a transfer for you.

      • Transfers can only occur between accounts of the same type. For example, a Traditional IRA can only be transferred into another Traditional IRA, and a Roth IRA can only be transferred into another Roth IRA.
      • If you do not have a brokerage outside of Swell, you can open one with another investment firm. Make sure the account type that you open matches the account type that you have at Swell.
      • If you already have a brokerage account outside of Swell, you can transfer your Swell account into that existing account — as long as the account type matches your Swell account type (for example Roth IRA to Roth IRA, taxable account to taxable account). If the account types do not match, you’ll need to open a new IRA.
      • Information you’ll need to transfer may differ depending on the platform, but generally, they will ask you for:
        • Your current institution: please enter Folio or Folio Investments, not Swell Investing
        • Your Folio account number
        • Your account type (Taxable (Flexible), Roth IRA, SEP IRA, Traditional IRA)
        • Value of your account
        • Personal information such as birth date and SSN
  • How do I find my Folio account number and Folio Login ID?

All account holders will receive an email with their Folio username. You will need to retain this Folio login ID to access account information after August 30, 2019.

To find your Folio account number and login ID on Swell Investing before August 30, 2019:

    1. Log into your Swell Account
    2. Select Settings & Info > Manage Accounts
    3. The Account Number listed is your Folio account number

folio_account_number.png        4. The Folio Investments Login ID is what you will use to log in to your Folio account

  • How do I link an additional bank account?

For security purposes, you cannot link a second bank account until 90 days after your first deposit. Once the waiting period has passed, you can log in your Swell account and link an additional bank account.

Option 1: After the 90 day security period

We have partnered with Plaid, a third-party platform that will quickly and safely verify your bank account information.

      1. Select Add New Accountbanks1.pngbanks2.png
      2. Select your bankbanks3.png
      3. Input your username and password for your bank accountbanks4.png
        • Swell will retrieve your bank account and routing numbers, as well as your current balance (“Account Information”) via Plaid.
        • Swell will not store your username or password for your bank account. Plaid will provide Swell an access token that exclusively allows Swell to retrieve your account information. All information transmitted between Plaid and Swell is encrypted over a 256-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and secured with bank-level protection.

Option 2: Before the 90 day security period

If do not have access to your linked bank account or your bank information is incorrect, please email [email protected].
